Porto boss Sergio Conceicao has urged his side to attempt their comeback on Wednesday ‘without haste’, even if Roma ‘concede lots of goals’.

Porto trail Roma 2-1 from the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie but have an away goal in their favour.

“We must try to win but without haste,” Conceicao said at a Press conference.

“We know their strengths, they have the third best attack in Serie A and have extraordinary players. They’re a good team, so balance will be crucial.

“Our belief comes from the work we do every day. In the last few games we’ve used players who hadn’t got many minutes and the answer I got from them was excellent.

“The team count. Every game has its own story. It’s always important to have one or more solutions, but they’re not decisive. Teamwork is important.

“We’ll have to be effective in attack and defence. We’ll need the ability to attack, defend and have balance.

“Everything that’s said before a game doesn’t count when the referee blows his whistle. Roma are no less strong just because they lost the derby. Results count for us.

“We’re prepared for a difficult game. We know that regardless of the way Italian teams think, Roma concede lots of goals.

“However we must be ready to face a Roma side who will defend their lead strongly, that’s clear. During the match, it may be that we’ll switch to a different strategy.

“I won’t say anything about our line-up, other than there are three players who are part of the group and will help us, if I deem it necessary.

“No-one has more motivation than us to reach the quarter-finals. It’s not the fans who have to help us. We have to do something to show them we’re motivated.

“I analysed our last game. Many people don’t understand football and talk about it anyway. I’m always available to talk.

“The forwards are our first line of defence. When playing with forwards and wingers, we have to analyse a series of situations and also the characteristics of our opponents.”
