Mauro Icardi reportedly wants to undergo knee surgery as his standoff with Inter continues.

According to Corriere dello Sport, an operation would officially end Icardi’s season but agent-wife Wanda Nara is ‘hopeful’ of finding a solution to his exile with Inter general manager Beppe Marotta.

According to Corriere dello Sport, an operation would officially end Icardi’s season but agent-wife Wanda Nara is ‘hopeful’ of finding a solution to his exile with Inter general manager Beppe Marotta.

However the newspaper warns the striker will only return if he is given back the captaincy, while writing President Steven Zhang is keen on ‘resolving the situation’.

That could force Zhang to override the wishes of his board and let the Argentine reunite with the armband, but the publication adds it could cause ‘a real earthquake’ behind the scenes.

In the meantime, Icardi will keep receiving physiotherapy and is expected to fly out to Barcelona for a consultation with knee specialist Professor Cougat.

Il Corriere concludes the Inter dressing room did not answer the 26-year-old when he tried reaching out to his teammates, asking if they had any issues with him, while believing ‘he had nothing to apologise for’.
