He walked to the team bus and sat on it alone, thinking, while players held post-match interviews with Sky Sport Italia and other media.

As he is contractually obliged to give interviews after a Champions League game, it means he will be fined.

According to Sky Sport Italia, a decision will be made on Thursday on whether Di Francesco will be sacked.

The comments from Perotti seem to back rumours Di Francesco had already been considering his resignation.

“The Coach is as disappointed as all of us. We ran for 120 minutes and it’s painful to go out like this, as I feel we deserved more,” Perotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“Porto were playing at home and had the fans pushing them forward, but we still had the chances to win it.

“We have always given our all and nobody likes to lose or go out of the Champions League. I already said we’re behind the Coach, it’s an ugly time for everyone. He will decide what he wants to do, but we have always fought for Roma and for the staff.”

The Giallorossi were furious that VAR was not consulted on a potential last-minute trip on Patrik Schick.

“You’d have to ask the referee. What disappoints me is he didn’t even go to view the incident on VAR. If the system is available, it needs to be used.”
