Roma President Jim Pallotta released a statement claiming they were “robbed” in the Champions League against Porto. “I give up.”

This brief statement was given via the official Roma Twitter account late into the night.

“Last year we asked for VAR in the Champions League because we got screwed in the semi-final and tonight, they’ve got VAR and we still get robbed. Patrik Schick was clearly clipped in the box, VAR shows it, and nothing is given. I’m tired of this crap. I give up.”

The Giallorossi had won the first leg 2-1 at the Olimpico and lost by the same result at the Estadio Do Dragao, but a penalty in extra time for Alessandro Florenzi’s shirt tug on Fernando – awarded via VAR – gave Porto the advantage.

Only a few minutes later, Patrik Schick seemed to have his heel clipped by Moussa Marega, but after consulting with the VAR officials, referee Cuneyt Cakir opted not to even view the footage again.

The reference to last season was the semi-final exit to Liverpool, where the Giallorossi wanted two penalties.

Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco sat on the team bus after the game and refused to speak to the media, which will earn him a fine from UEFA, as these interviews are contractually obligated.

It remains to be seen what the events in Portugal will mean for Di Francesco or the club’s future.
