Gianluigi Buffon’s agent claims the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was unlucky against Manchester United as ‘everything went wrong’ last night.

Buffon gifted Romelu Lukaku a tap-in during PSG’s 3-1 defeat to United on Wednesday, which saw the French giants crash out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the third successive season.

“I’m in Milan right now so I don’t know the reasons that led to this disappointment, but football is like that sometimes,” Silvano Martina told Calciomercato.com.

“The disappointment is strong when you win 2-0 away and your opponents come back.

“I don’t think it’s happened in the last few years, that a team have come back from such a deficit away from home.

“Now there’s VAR. If the incident was reviewed then clearly there were reasons to award the penalty.

“I’d never have given it, but the ball was adjudged to have touched [Kimpembe’s] arm. Let me explain: the shot was directed towards goal but it would’ve gone over, just as the penalty against Roma was very generous.

“Florenzi’s tug was there, but the Porto striker would never have got to the ball. In Italy they always criticise you, even if you concede goals in off the woodwork.

“There was a mistake in his intervention and after that he conceded the goal… Sometimes no-one’s in front of you and you can get the ball back, but yesterday Lukaku was there and he put it away. Everything went wrong.”

The 41-year-old, who was given just 2/10 for his performance by L’Equipe, is out of contract this summer, so will PSG retain him?

“I’m just an agent so I don’t know what will happen, but PSG certainly can’t be happy. I can’t confirm [whether he’ll stay],” Martina added.

“I’ll talk to the club, but I won’t get into these things right now. We’ll do everything calmly, we’ll let the necessary time pass to get over this disappointment and then we’ll talk.”
