Gennaro Gattuso says the time has come for Milan to ‘raise the bar’ when they face Chievo in Serie A on Saturday.

Milan are third in the table after a run of four straight Serie A wins and Gattuso made it clear his side ‘absolutely can’t make mistakes’ against Chievo, who have ‘nothing to lose’.

“It’ll be very, very difficult,” he said at a Press conference.

“It also will because Chievo are playing well and have nothing to lose. The game will require a great Milan performance, where we play well but also battle.

“We absolutely can’t make mistakes as, unlike them, we have it all to lose. Therefore we need to play with clarity. The derby prepares for itself, but our next match is tomorrow.

“Rotation? Pressure causes tiredness. We’ve grown, but we’re still insecure. Now, like I’ve said for some time, we need to raise the bar, also in terms of character.

“The time has come, otherwise we’ll be sliced and diced.”

Suso has come in for criticism after no goals or assists since January…

“After finishing with Calhanoglu, they’ve started on Suso,” hit back the Coach.

“When they’re done with him they’ll immediately start on someone else, but there’s no problem with Jesus.

“He’s fine and I think that with his characteristics, he can help us step up. We must stick together and not waste or energy.

“We must think only about ourselves and above all, not the others. I don’t take notice of what happens outside.

“I don’t sleep at night because of my own problems, let alone others. Here I have to make decisions and keep the balance. It’s not easy.

“In any case, the Icardi case has strengthened Inter. If I don’t win two games, maybe I’ll be back on the brink.

“Still, I’m not thinking about it. Maybe in a year’s time I’ll be in Spain or an Arab country. My focus is only on tomorrow’s match.

“Wearing this shirt has its weight, I know what it means to wear it. As a player I know it very well, having worn it.

“As a Coach, especially in Europe, I still have it all to do.”
