Empoli boss Beppe Iachini believes that while Claudio Ranieri will have given Roma a ‘jolt’, his team ‘can take on anyone’ ahead of Monday’s Serie A match.
Empoli have one just one of their last seven League games, leaving them only a point and a place above the relegation zone, while Roma have been boosted by the return of Ranieri.
Nonetheless, Iachini said at a Press conference: “We’ve grown a lot and we’re trying to give less to our opponents.
“We need to raise our attention and concentration threshold even further for the entire 95 minutes because we’ve seen that if we stay in the game, we can take on anyone with the organisation and mentality we’ve built. We must grow and improve quickly.
“How to face Roma? For our part we’ll need to put in a big performance. Roma have weaknesses but big teams have 23 starters and if one of them don’t play then another comes in at the same level.
“Until now the team have shown that they can play football, have ideas, have the right mindset and have a big heart because we’ve done well to come back in so many games.
“We have a chance with the right spirit. A change of Coach always jolts a team mentally. I’m very sorry for Di Francesco because he’s a colleague of mine and when results don’t arrive, Coaches often pay the price.
“Still, at the same time I find in Ranieri a teacher and a great man, whom I had the pleasure of working under.
“He left a mark on my career, first as a player and then as a Coach. He’s a very competent and sincere Coach, and that means Roma are beginning their journey with a Coach who knows how to get the best out of their players and who, even in a few days, will have made his team compact and given them the right motivation.”
