Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has hit out at Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini for his ‘unsporting’ behaviour between the sides on Sunday.

Gasperini reacted to his red card during Atalanta’s 2-1 win at Marassi by pushing Samp secretary Massimo Ienca, who fell to the ground, and Ferrero condemned the Coach for his conduct.

“The match was tough: we lost to a great team, but we’re not far behind them,” he said after the game.

“The match was tough: we lost to a great team, but we’re not far behind them,” he said after the game.

“We must learn from these defeats: we start over with optimism from our next game at Sassuolo.

“I’m sorry that a Coach like Gasperini could have given such an unsporting reaction. When he was sent off he had to leave the field, not attack one of our directors: Gasperini was wrong.

“I also take this opportunity to clarify that my words were misunderstood during Gasperini’s Press conference on Saturday: it wasn’t my intention to offend the Garrone-Mondini family.”
