Iraq left-back Ali Adnan has left Atalanta to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps on loan for the rest of the season.
A statement on the Whitecaps’ official website confirmed the deal and that Adnan would arrive in Canada next week, pending international clearance, a work permit, visa and completion of his medical.
“We evaluated every opportunity that was possible, and this loan allows us to strengthen the left back position while we continue to explore the market for the July transfer window,” Whitecaps Coach Marc Dos Santos told the club’s official website.
“Ali is physically gifted, aggressive, strong in the air, and he will bring balance to the team with his defensive mindset.
“He’s excited to come here and experience playing in Vancouver before he returns to Italy.”
The 25-year-old [pictured, left] only joined Atalanta from Udinese on a season-long loan last summer but has played just five for the Dea this term.
Once dubbed the ‘Iraqi Gareth Bale’, Adnan made 70 appearances for Udinese and has represented his country on 46 occasions.
