The Giallorossi were shaken up by an earthquake in the club hierarchy this week, as within 24 hours of their Champions League exit, Coach Eusebio Di Francesco was fired to make way for Claudio Ranieri and director of sport Monchi terminated his contract by mutual consent.

“Monchi had great professionalism and dedication, but also suffering that this season did not live up to the same standards as last term, so we will try to reverse that suffering over the next 12 games,” Massara told Sky Sport Italia.

He was asked if failure to qualify for the Champions League could see more star names sold off.

“Finishing in the top four is fundamental for all Serie A clubs. Having said that, Roma are a solid club who over the last few years have always qualified for the Champions League, including two times in second place, with in one case a new club record for points.

“Right now, we have to focus on Empoli and it’s a game we absolutely have to win.”
