Lombardo named Italy assistant

Italy have officially appointed former Sampdoria winger Attilio Lombardo as Roberto Mancini’s assistant.

Lombardo last worked as Sinisa Mihajlovic’s right-hand man at Torino, but he will now reunite with his former Samp teammate, with whom he won a Scudetto and reached a Champions League Final.

The 53-year-old played 19 times for Italy, scoring three goals without representing his country at a major tournament, and also played for the likes of Juventus, Crystal Palace and Lazio.

He went on to work alongside Mancini at Manchester City and Galatasaray, before assisting Roberto Di Matteo at Schalke during the 2014-15 campaign.
