Napoli gunning for EL glory

Napoli could cross paths with former boss Maurizio Sarri or be given a shot at redemption in the Europa League quarter-final draw.

The draw takes place today at 12:00 GMT in Nyon and will be covered as it happens with Football Italia’s liveblog.

Napoli reached the last eight by the skin of their teeth after a 3-1 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday, their progress owed to a 3-0 win in the first leg.

The Partenopei one and only conquest in the competition came all the back in 1989, when Argentine icon Diego Maradona was still at the club.

As Italy’s lone representatives in the quarter-finals, they have scores to settle with several teams.

Villarreal knocked out Napoli at the last-16 stage three years ago, while Arsenal edged them out on goal difference to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 during the 2013-14 campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side also lost out to a Chelsea comeback in the Champions League last 16 seven years ago, while the Blues are now coached by ex-Napoli man Sarri.

However, a team to keep an eye on are Czech outfit Slavia Prague after they defeated five-time winners Sevilla in extra time.

Teams in the Europa League quarter-final draw: Arsenal, Benfica, Chelsea, Eintracht Frankfurt, Napoli, Slavia Prague, Valencia, Villarreal
