It is a head-to-head for third place in Serie A and comes days after Inter crashed out of the Europa League to Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I think the players became frightened by the poor start and lost the necessary organisation to control the game,” former Inter President Moratti told Rai Sport.

“They need to approach the derby in a more relaxed state, remembering that it’s not like Milan are Real Madrid.”

The Nerazzurri are still without Icardi, as the striker has complained of a knee injury that coincidentally flared up the day he was stripped of the captaincy on February 13, and has not played or even trained with the team since.

“The whole thing started badly and it is now difficult to get it sorted out. It depends on the people involved. This clearing of the air between the players has been asked a bit too much and now everyone is remaining firm in their positions.

“It’s a moment of crisis for Luciano Spalletti, but we need to have patience.”

Moratti was asked what he’d tell the team going into the final weeks of the season and he did not hold back.

“To be professional, set aside the reasons why they’ve split down the middle, as the history of Inter and its fans are more important than their silly reasons.”
