The Sardinians dominated the Viola 2-1 on Friday evening, with goals from Joao Pedro and Luca Ceppitelli, while Luca Cigarini had a strike from the half-way line disallowed because it was an indirect free kick and floated straight in.

“We played a generous game, never holding back, keeping sharp and pushing forward. It was not easy against a side like Fiorentina, but we put our heart into it and will now enjoy this victory,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The first half was more timid, but we found more room to counter after the restart. I chose Fabrizio Cacciatore and Lykogiannis because they had the pace to keep up with the Fiorentina forwards.

“It’s a real pity the Cigarini goal was disallowed, as that was a remarkable moment that will remain in the memory for years anyway. The skill deserved a goal.”

That was Cagliari’s third consecutive home victory and propelled them away from the relegation zone.

“Now we are starting to get players back from injury and the situation has changed. We can’t lower our guard, as if anything we must start repeating this kind of performance away from home, and I am convinced we are close to achieving that.”
