There are increasing reports in Spain that Atletico Madrid will ask UEFA to investigate Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo for his ‘offensive’ celebration.

This sort of action could lead to a ban of anything between one and three games.

CR7 made the gesture after completing his hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Atleti, securing Juve’s place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

It was a call-back to the exact same gesture made by Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone during the first leg, which the Spaniards won 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano.

However, Simeone was only given a €20,000 fine after apologising and insisting he had only been showing his own supporters that he possessed ‘cojones’ in making brave decisions.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, made the gesture towards the travelling Atleti supporters in Turin and has not apologised in any way, so it could be read as an insult and provocation of the away fans.

He also reportedly shouted ‘Sons of bitches’ to the crowd as he did so.

With this in mind, Spanish newspapers Mundo Deportivo and As are pushing the idea Atleti could ask UEFA to take action and open an investigation into Cristiano Ronaldo’s actions.

It could mean having Juve’s star man suspended for the upcoming quarter-finals against Ajax.
