Inter chief medic Professor Piero Volpi gave updates on Mauro Icardi, Stefan de Vrij and Radja Nainggolan.

Icardi returned to training after a six-week stand-off with the club, as he has not played or even trained with his teammates since he was suddenly stripped of the captaincy on February 13.

“Icardi had physiotherapy, then a period of individual athletic work to get him back into shape,” explained Volpi.

Icardi returned to training after a six-week stand-off with the club, as he has not played or even trained with his teammates since he was suddenly stripped of the captaincy on February 13.

“Icardi had physiotherapy, then a period of individual athletic work to get him back into shape,” explained Volpi.

“He is slowly getting back into the group and reaching the same fitness levels as his teammates. We’ll evaluate his condition next week, as only then can we decide on the timing of a complete recovery.

“It’s a normal procedure and at the end of it he’ll be returned to the squad full-time.”

When asked if Icardi could play against Lazio next weekend, the response was measured.

“It’s not a question I can answer. There’s a chance and we’ll see what happens, but it’s not just a question for me. It also involved the management staff

Radja Nainggolan is currently out of action, while Stefan de Vrij was only in the stands for the Netherlands on international duty last night.

“Nainggolan is recovering from the problem he sustained around two weeks ago. He is improving and we are completing his individual training work to be up to speed.

“Icardi will be evaluated at the start of next week, when he can return to full training with the rest of the squad.”
