Inter have become the favourites for River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios after Real Madrid cooled their interest.
It had been a bidding war between the two clubs for the 20-year-old talent.
However, according to Spanish paper Marca, the €50m purchase of Eder Militao from FC Porto has postponed other big investments for the time being.
Inter have every intention of taking advantage and Vice-President Javier Zanetti has reportedly been working behind the scenes to put them in pole position.
Despite his tender age, Palacios already has two senior caps for Argentina.
He is currently out of action following a fractured fibula last month, but is expected back in June.
