“Kean is only 19 years old, so it’s incredible to see him doing so well. We are making steps forward in negotiations to sign a new contract.

“We must protect him, help him to grow and aid the maturation process,” Nedved told Sky Sport Italia.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned from international duty with a muscular problem and there are suggestions he could miss the Champions League clash with Ajax.

“It’s not easy to say, we are very confident, as Ronaldo is doing everything possible to be ready in time. We’ll look after Ronaldo too, as we will only play those who are 100 per cent fit.”

Paulo Dybala had been hoping to take advantage of Ronaldo’s absence to shine, but the Argentine pulled out in the warm-up and is replaced by Rodrigo Bentancur.

“Dybala is very important for this team,” noted Nedved.

“The Coach has been making important decisions this season to rotate the squad. Obviously, we want to win our Serie A games before diving back into the Champions League.”
