Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has ‘won’ the Golden Tapir award for his howler against Sampdoria on Saturday.

Satirical news programme ‘Striscia la Notizia’ decided to award the ‘Tapiro d’Oro’ to Donnarumma after his mistake gifted Sampdoria a 1-0 victory over Milan at the weekend.

The gag prize is given to someone who has been notably embarrassed or defeated in the preceding week, and the 20-year-old had the misfortune of receiving it on April Fools’ Day.

“It happens. What should I do?” he remarked.

“My teammates consoled me and told me not to think about it because that would be useless.

“We had to move forward and we hoped to win the game. We have an important match tomorrow and we have to win it. We can still finish fourth.”

The reporter then asked Gigio if he would play for Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza next season.

“Yes. He’s already called me.”
