Treble-winning Inter star Julio Cesar maintains Samir Handanovic is “one of the five best goalkeepers in the world.”
The Brazilian spoke to Inter TV after the 4-0 victory over Genoa last night, which consolidated third place in the Serie A standings.
“It’s certainly a positive campaign, but the Champions League spot still needs to be earned,” said Julio Cesar.
“The fact the big games coming up are on home turf could be fundamental for Inter, as those are six-pointers. From those results, we’ll see if Inter have had a good or bad season.”
The Nerazzurri had qualified for the Champions League last term and would’ve knocked Tottenham Hotspur out in the group stage, but were held to a 1-1 home draw by PSV Eindhoven.
“I don’t know if the elimination was down to a lack of experience, as they have a strong Coach and players who are internationals.”
Handanovic is the new captain after Mauro Icardi was stripped of his status.
“Handanovic has been showing his capabilities for years now. In my view, he is one of the five best goalkeepers in the world.”
