“Samp did everything possible to win this game, as our only thought was the victory and scoring goals,” the Coach told DAZN.

“De Rossi showed his experience and nous when going down early as soon as he felt the Joachim Andersen nudge for the disallowed goal. Ronaldo Vieira was pushed by Schick on the Roma goal, but he didn’t go down, because he’s only 20 years old.

“We are left with the regrets of losing after a good performance. I could not have asked for more from the team. It’s disappointing for the fans, as they didn’t deserve to watch a defeat either. Their passion and fidelity to the Blucerchiati colours are admirable.

“The team tried to repay them with a victory, but the result did not do our performance justice. We lacked the final ball tonight, and that is what wins you games.”
