York Capital Management has confirmed that it is in talks to buy Sampdoria from Massimo Ferrero.

Ferrero has continually denied negotiating with the fund, but director Federico Oliva made it clear a deal to take over Samp had been in the offing for ’months’. 

“Sampdoria are very interesting, negotiations have been going on for months,” he told Corriere della Sera.

“Our top levels in New York are working on it.”

Oliva also confirmed York Capital had offered €80m for the club, although Calciomercato.com writes that figure is too low.

The website adds the Blucerchiati are also talking to other potential buyers, among them ‘English and Arab funds’.

Nonetheless, York Capital – which plans to install Gianluca Vialli as President – would ‘remain ahead’ of the competition.
