Cagliari Coach Rolando Maran believes the two red cards his players received in today’s controversial draw with Torino were exaggerated.

The Rossoblu had Nicolò Barella and Luca Pellegrini sent off, while Torino’s Simone Zaza was also issued his marching orders for swearing at referee Massimiliano Irrati.

Leonardo Pavoletti’s equaliser was originally ruled out for offside, but was overturned by VAR, an event that saw Toro Coach Walter Mazzarri sent to the stands.

Maran told the press after the game that he hadn’t spoken to Walter Mazzarri during the match and that he thought Pavoletti’s goal was good.

“I don’t need to talk about the goal. If VAR thought the goal should stand, then it should stand.

“The red cards, they seem exaggerated. We will now miss two vital players for our next match.”

Maran’s side now sit in 12th place on 37 points and he claimed he was happy with the result.

“It is a vital and well-deserved point. We fought and responded blow for blow. It was a good performance, and a good response from the whole group.”
