Parma Coach Roberto D’Aversa lamented the loss of his injured players, but in the end, a penalty miss was all that separated his side from victory in the Emilia-Romagna Derby with Sassuolo.

The Gialloblu played out a goalless stalemate with their regional rivals this afternoon thanks in part to Andrea Consigli saving Fabio Ceravolo’s spot-kick.

D’Aversa’s comments to the Press after the game focused on those missing players and he felt their absence made the difference.

“For any side, if you take out their best players, they will struggle. So, if you take out Roberto Inglese, Bruno Alves, and Gervinho, for us, you take away our best players.

“We certainly felt the absentees up front, as Gervinho and Mattia Sprocati didn’t train much this week and had to start from the bench.

“I was pleased that the players who came in were able to adapt to their different roles, but I won’t use these absentees as an excuse, I have to praise the boys who are doing something extraordinary.

“We focus now on Milan next week and we have to think about winning every game to get closer to our goal. We knew we would have to fight for every point regardless of the opponent.

“This team has proven that it can compete against the big sides.”
