“We want to close this negative period, focus our objective back on to second place as quickly as possible and achieve it by playing good football tomorrow,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It might not have been considered much at the start of the season, but second place is an important target.”

The tension has been climbing around Insigne and Ancelotti confirms he will not be taking part in the trip to Frosinone.

“He tried during the week, but still feels this pain in the adductor tendon and it’s been an issue for a while now. It’s not serious, but it doesn’t allow him to train at his best and do everything he wants to during a match. We need patience.

“Allan too has a muscular problem, but the good news is that Raul Albiol is back, even if I don’t think he’ll be in the starting XI.

“Of course he is disappointed by the jeers from the crowd, but the only path forward for Insigne is to train well and focus on his work. We must support and help him find the ideal conditions to express himself.

“It’s disappointing that he can’t play tomorrow, because over the last week he has really understood what he needs to do.”

Ancelotti hit out at the criticism and plummeting ticket sales in recent weeks.

“My analysis of the season remains positive and the team has done some very good things, especially in the early months. I see too much negativity around us, with some talking of failure. Nobody ever said we had to win the Scudetto. The only real regret was the Coppa Italia exit, which was our own fault.

“We’ve been competitive and still are competitive in Serie A, which is already a good result. I also see people claiming the team has run out of steam physically, but that’s not true either. It’s a false perception, as the stats confirm the players are running as much as ever. The media are giving an inaccurate picture of the situation.

“There is a difference between physical fitness and mental sharpness. We have had some limitations in the way we deal with difficulties and that is something we need to deal with next season.

“I ask myself why there is so much negativity around the team? Fans can demand effort, desire, concentration, but demanding a result is impossible. Guaranteeing a trophy is impossible. All I can guarantee is to give my best for a club and fans who I admire and appreciate.

“There is no discussion about my future, as I am very happy at Napoli and nothing has changed. If anything, I am more eager to continue the work we’ve started here and I have every reason to be motivated.

“We do not want or need to sell players. Napoli will have a positive approach to the transfer market, using our ideas to strengthen the squad. Having said that, I certainly won’t try to cling to anyone who wants to leave.”
