Carlo Ancelotti believes Amin Younes and Dries Mertens will play a big part in the Napoli squad next season. “He proved what he’s capable of.”

Both players were on target in today’s 2-0 victory away to Frosinone, which opened up an eight-point lead over third-place Inter.

“We had a good game, it was important to win and send a positive sign to leave behind this brief negative period. Now we aim to end the season on a high,” the Coach told DAZN.

“We mustn’t lower our guard, so we’ll try to pick up as many points as possible. Our objective is to reach 80 points. There were so many chances to score today and we keep creating, so just needed a little more determination in the finishing.”

Dries Mertens curled in a free kick, while Amin Younes had a very impressive game, capped off by a goal.

“The great thing about Mertens is that he always gives his all, even if he plays badly. I really like his attitude, including that he gets cross when he doesn’t play.

“I am glad he matched Diego Maradona’s total of 81 Serie A goals, he deserves it. Mertens certainly has a place in the future of Napoli, he is an important player and his attitude spreads to his teammates.

“Younes had come off an injury, so it’s only natural he hasn’t been training consistently, but he proved today what he’s capable of. He’s formidable in one-on-one situations and that is what we must make the most of.

“Next season, I feel Younes will really make his mark.”
