Paolo Scaroni claims Milan ‘haven’t played well for months’ and warns of ‘economic’ implications if they do not make the Champions League.

A run of only one win in seven Serie A games has seen Milan fall out of the top four, in turn piling the pressure on Coach Gennaro Gattuso.

“We haven’t played well for months,” Scaroni told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“There’s been a drop in form. The Champions League has moved away from us after yesterday’s result, but we won’t give up.

“On purely sporting topics, I don’t want to make any comments because we have a technical area of Leonardo and Maldini, consisting of absolute respect.

“Missing out on the Champions League would mean an evident and immediate economic impact, plus a slowdown in us reaching our objectives.

“We didn’t budget for entry into the Champions League. All the fans and I are disappointed, but we’ll keep doing our utmost to achieve our objective.”

The President was then asked about the recent racism storm in Italian football, which saw Tiemoue Bakayoko and Franck Kessie targeted by Lazio fans.

“I think it’s a bit like that,” he replied when asked if fans had too much power on the peninsula.

“In England they’re way ahead of us. Often, however, someone goes in search of small incidents.

“I don’t want to dwell on this. I won’t judge the decision taken. We have a video where there are 32 racist chants and images with banana boats.

“It’s clear. If [authorities] wanted to see it and intervene, they could. Referee and assistants could also be vigilant because they could stop the game.

“I’m not saying they should abandon the game, they could suspend it but at least for a few minutes.

“We’ve always acted against these things. Our fans are absent from these phenomena of racism. Always, or at least recently.

“Certainly, with greater control of the stadium, we can intervene better.”
