“Milan’s saving grace was always respect for the rules,” he told ANSA.
“Galliani and Berlusconi needed to intervene a few times. There was a great mentality, a great history. And that history was respected. Now it’s more difficult.
“The mentality of players has changed. When I left, I knew something had changed. I struggled to speak the language I’d heard for so many years.
“When I shaved on my first day at Milanello, I left two hairs in the sink… I took two slaps to the head from Costacurta and immediately understood the mentality.”
The 41-year-old has spent the past season-and-a-half in charge at San Siro, so how has he found coaching the Rossoneri today?
“Now there’s a different mentality and slowly you can work to find the one you had before, but let’s not forget that things have changed.
“A Coach must find a group of lads willing to make sacrifices, improve and do more. Now you have to be careful when you say something to them.
