Andrea Ranocchia thanked his “family” Inter for a contract extension. “I’m happy that my love for the club was recognised.”

The defender had been the captain a few years ago, but despite receiving less and less playing time, he always remained committed to the Inter cause.

“By the time this contract expires, I will have been with the Nerazzurri for 11 seasons. That’s a lot and I am very happy, because this club is a family to me,” Ranocchia told Inter TV.

“By the time this contract expires, I will have been with the Nerazzurri for 11 seasons. That’s a lot and I am very happy, because this club is a family to me,” Ranocchia told Inter TV.

“The negotiations were pretty simple and didn’t last long. I am happy that my love for the club was recognised, my professionalism during every day of training and the games that I took part in.

“I hope over the next two years to reach targets that this club has waited too long to celebrate. As a defender, there were some difficult times at Inter, but it’s getting better now, we have players of great quality and are finding our shape.

“There’s still a long road ahead of us and I hope it’ll be traversed as quickly as possible. It’s only right that a club like Inter get back to challenging for titles.

“As for this season, we’ve got to lock down Champions League qualification as soon as possible so we can start planning for next term.”

Much of the time this season, when Ranocchia did come off the bench, he was used as a makeshift centre-forward.

“I tried to give my all. Obviously, it’s not my natural role, but I gave everything I could when called upon. Sometimes it went better than others.”
