Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini says he ‘loves’ Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso and wants to ‘invite him to dinner’ at the end of the season.

Salvini and Gattuso had traded blows through the Press earlier in the season, with Italy’s interior minister criticising the Coach’s team selections and calling him ‘pig-headed’.

“As an Italian citizen, I’d have many things to say to Salvini about his work…” the former Italy midfielder hit back.

On Tuesday, though, the Lega Nord leader and avid Diavolo fan extended an olive branch when he spoke at an event in Milan.

“I love Gattuso and, on May 27, I want to offer him a seafood dinner. I know he owns an excellent restaurant and while it would be impolite of me to invite him to his own place, I want to invite him there anyway.

“We can wait until the end of the season and after the European elections so both of us are more relaxed.

“The invitation is valid whatever happens, even without Champions League qualification.”

Salvini then smiled and said ‘no’ when he was later asked if Tiemoue Bakayoko would also be invited.
