Tottenham Hotspur will play Liverpool in the Champions League Final, but both came within goal difference of being eliminated by Inter and Napoli.

Spurs were 3-0 down on aggregate during tonight’s semi-final, having lost 1-0 at home in the first leg, but fought back with a Lucas Moura hat-trick for an extraordinary 3-2 victory in Amsterdam.

Moura completed his treble at the 96th minute after a chaotic game where both sides hit the woodwork and Ajax were denied by a goal-line clearance.

Tottenham will face Liverpool in the Final, who lost the first leg 3-0 to Barcelona only to win the home game 4-0.

Incredibly, both these teams would’ve been out in the group stage of the Champions League had it not been for the tiniest of margins against Serie A clubs.

In Group B, Inter and Spurs both finished level on eight points behind Barcelona on 14.

If the Nerazzurri had won their final game, at home to an already-eliminated PSV Eindhoven side who had until then picked up just one point, they would’ve eliminated Tottenham.

Instead, they were held to a deeply disappointing 1-1 draw at San Siro.

In Group C, Napoli were centimetres away from equalising away to Liverpool in the final minutes with the Arkadiusz Milik chance, as Alisson Becker just managed to parry and secure the 1-0 win.

Once again, Napoli and Liverpool finished level on nine points in the group, behind PSG on 11.

In the end, they could only be separated by away goal difference in their head-to-head record.
