Atalanta President Antonio Percassi insists they’ll keep Gian Piero Gasperini and their star men. “We want to reinforce and not weaken the squad.”

The Orobici have been the surprise package of the season, as they currently sit in fourth place and only one point behind Inter, so as things stand are heading into the Champions League.

“We are approaching some fundamental matches now, but are already happy with the results achieved so far. Anything that comes on top of that is fantastic,” Percassi told Tuttomercatoweb.

Gasperini has been linked to several bigger clubs, including Roma, Milan and even Juventus.

“We are fortunate that he is our Coach. Gasperini can stay at Atalanta for life, I’ve said it many times. The contracts are clear and we have not even slightly considered the matter.

“I didn’t expect to win away to Napoli and Lazio, but Gasperini told me we’d get the victories and I trust him completely. I am proud that people say we play the best football in Italy.”

In recent years, Atalanta have churned out talents and sold them on at a huge profit, but Percassi insists their approach has changed.

“We already received many offers in January and rejected all of them. We want to reinforce and not weaken the squad this summer.”
