“I am satisfied, it took a great Antonio Mirante to keep us in the game, especially in the first half,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We must keep believing that anything is possible. We know full well it doesn’t depend only on us, but we have to try our best.”
Ranieri said this week he would leave at the end of the season, but if he takes them into the Champions League, could he change his mind?
“I am just focusing on doing my work. I’m Roman, I know everything here, it is my home and I’ve travelled all over the world, but this is home.
“I always try to implement a feeling of mutual respect, we can joke and laugh around, but on the field we give our all.”
The former Leicester City Coach was asked about his tactical changes to the side he inherited from Eusebio Di Francesco.
“I don’t want us to press too high and we did a few times today, so Juve were able to break through with one or two touches. We need to feel more secure, give fewer spaces to the opposition, but that doesn’t mean we are less attacking. We just attack in a different way and would’ve been more effective today if we hadn’t been so frenetic with the finishing.
“I don’t have a specific tactical credo that I always stick to. I adapt to the players and their characteristics, trying to make the most of their strengths and maintain a balanced team. People can criticise if I don’t play this or that figure, but I am at peace with my decisions.”
Ranieri was asked if he would remain as a director or even as a co-Coach to someone like Daniele De Rossi, but made a revelation.
“When I was contacted by Roma, I was offered a role for after this experience, but I said no, I am still a Coach and I want to continue coaching. I happily take the insults and knocks, because I want to keep coaching.
“I think the club knows what it needs to do and is waiting to see where we are at the end of the season, quite rightly, before making any decisions.”
