There have been repeated stories in multiple media outlets including Sky Sport Italia, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport suggesting Conte has already agreed a contract with Inter for next season.

“The rumours about Spalletti’s future aren’t helpful,” the 62-year-old former Juventus CEO told Sky Sport Italia.

“I believe it’s the new generation of communication that spread these stories so easily, they create a distraction and can be annoying to read sometimes.

“Spalletti has done a good job and that should be recognised. Our goal was to get into the Champions League spots, and we are going about it the right way.

“I don’t understand the criticisms of the last few weeks, as we have almost achieved our goal.”

The Nerazzurri host Chievo tonight, needing a win to put them back up into third place, and put some daylight between them and the other sides chasing the top four.

“Tonight, there can only be one result, we know that Chievo will try to play their game and we know there will be difficulties during the match, but we must win, no exceptions.

“I don’t have an explanation for why we don’t score many goals, as we create a lot, but this type of analysis must be done at the end of the season."
