De Rossi and Ranieri meet protesters

Daniele De Rossi, Claudio Ranieri and director Ricky Massara met with furious Roma fans who staged a protest at the captain’s departure.

The supporters were angered by De Rossi’s admission he wanted to extend his stay at the Stadio Olimpico, where he spent his entire career from childhood, but the club did not offer a new contract.

There were already angry banners placed around the city overnight, slamming the club as ‘Just business’ and ‘a funeral parlour for players.’

After some ultras staged a sit-in at the Trigoria training ground today, De Rossi, Coach Ranieri and director of sport Massara walked outside to meet with them under the driving rain.

It’s reported by the Corriere dello Sport, La Repubblica and others who witnessed the meeting that De Rossi confessed the decision came from Boston, in other words President Jim Pallotta.

He nonetheless tried to reassure them that he did not want trouble and would continue to support Roma.
