Daniele De Rossi says he will have news of his next club ‘soon’ but is still ‘upset’ about his exit from Roma after winning the Golden Tapir award.

Satirical news programme ‘Striscia la Notizia’ decided to award De Rossi the ‘Tapiro d’Oro’ following Roma’s decision not to renew his contract, the midfielder learning his fate just a day before it went public. 

“I should know where I’ll be going and we’ll see if I can give a lot or a little,” said the midfielder.

“I’m still a bit upset about my departure. Football’s our job, there are people who play football and people who make decisions.

“Whoever made the decision, decided this. As a director, probably, if I wanted to, I would’ve made myself stay, but I’ll still try to play football.”

The gag prize is given to someone who has been notably embarrassed or defeated in the preceding week.

New York City FC, Boca Juniors, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have all been linked with the 35-year-old.
