The Neroverdi are already safely mid-table, but the Coach had a furious reaction when asked if his team was unmotivated.

“We want to get a result in order to consolidate our position and get closer to the top 10,” said De Zerbi in his Press conference.

“It won’t be easy, because the fixture list is particularly tricky for us, as we are up against Roma and Atalanta, who are in the running for the Champions League places.

“I realise that the Italian culture finds it strange Sassuolo can go to Torino and fight for the result anyway, but we’ll do the same with Roma and Atalanta, because that is how we view the sport.

“We are a fair team, we feel the duty to play at 100 per cent in every match and anyone who thinks otherwise is trying to stir up trouble.

“We earned our points without complaining, without crying, without blaming anyone. Chievo were already relegated and put in a great performance against us.

“It drives me mad to read that some have been insulting our players because they tried to do their duty and win a game. We continue to work as if nothing has changed since we secured mathematical safety in Serie A.”

Roma are fresh from beating Juventus 2-0 and need a victory to keep up with the race for a top four finish.

“Roma are a very physically strong team with pace on the counter, so we must be careful not to lose possession in dangerous areas. The danger with sides like this is they can make you see their vulnerabilities only to then hurt you when you push forward.”

Stefano Sensi is out of action after fracturing a bone in his hand, while Federico Peluso, Marlon and Claude Adjapong are injured, along with suspended Medhi Bourabia.
