Gattuso has seemingly been hanging on by a thread for months, expecting the sack even if he grabbed fourth place, and yet the Corriere della Sera paints a different picture now.

The newspaper claims it would cost €8m to sack Gattuso through various salaries and bonuses, while CEO Ivan Gazidis is unimpressed by the alternatives.

Former Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco was the main candidate and has now dropped down the pecking order, while Maurizio Sarri of Chelsea is also courted by Juventus and Roma.

Gazidis also appears to have been won over by Gattuso’s handling of the in-fighting in the squad between Franck Kessie and Lucas Biglia, then the row with Tiemoue Bakayoko.

If Gattuso is increasingly solid in his role, then the same cannot be said of Leonardo, as he has reportedly clashed with Gazidis.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Milan are looking at Lille director Luis Campos or Lazio’s director of sport Igli Tare.
