“When people say there are only three points to go in order to secure Champions League football, that’s still a lot,” the Coach told Inter TV and reporters in his Press conference.

“There are just two games to go and we need to win at least one of them, so we’ve got a very dangerous away fixture against Napoli, who have shown over the last few years just how strong they are. Plus they now have a world class Coach like Carlo Ancelotti.

“We’ve done what we needed to and prepared well for this game, talking about it in the right way. It’ll be a very different game to the one against Chievo, but Napoli are well-organised and can cause us real problems when it comes to directing the match the way we want it to go.

“In modern football, you need to have very precise characteristics to spend most of the game in the opposition half and we don’t really have those, so we have to make the most of our own characteristics. It won’t be easy.

“You score goals with tactical balance and the team winning back possession becomes increasingly fundamental.”

The defence will also be crucial against a prolific Napoli side, who should have Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens back from injury.

“Napoli have different options in attack, with those little and rapid strikers who take men on and score goals, then the more physical ones who can take control of the penalty area,” continued Spalletti.

“But we have one of the best defences in Serie A, so it’ll be fascinating to see this confrontation for me too.”

Both Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez received calls for the Argentina squad taking part in the Copa America.

“I expected that, because Lautaro had a good season at a club like Inter, which certainly gives a player more confidence and a higher profile. He absorbed everything he learned this year and has become an even stronger player. He belongs at a big club because of his character and mental strength. He doesn’t let himself be limited by the opponent, the context or the current moment.”

There was more good news this week for Inter, as they have officially been released from the Settlement Agreement, so are now free from Financial Fair Play restrictions.

“The Settlement Agreement had limited us to a degree. We’ve got to get back on the Champions League bus, as millions of Inter fans deserve it.

“However, third place is not to be taken for granted and we must remain focused on getting the result we need against Napoli.”
