The Neroverdi have been comfortably mid-table for weeks, but that hasn’t stopped them throwing a spanner in the works for teams in the race for Europe, pushing Torino all the way in a 3-2 defeat and this evening holding Roma to a goalless draw.

“We did well in the second half too, but Roma really stepped on the gas in the final 10-15 minutes and pinned us back,” the Coach told DAZN.

“There are regrets, as we had two or three really good potential chances and the final ball was wrong. We need to improve in our determination and sharpness in the final third. We’ve scored a lot of goals this season, but considering our potential not nearly enough.

“We should’ve won this game and it’s pleasing to keep a 14th clean sheet, which is not to be sniffed at for a mid-table team, but still could’ve done more.”

De Zerbi hugged Daniele De Rossi after the final whistle, ahead of next week’s final match in a Roma jersey.

“I told him that I’m sorry for his situation. I have a De Rossi in my squad, Francesco Magnanelli, and he’ll decide when it’s time to move on. Some players are simply different to the others and we should respect club icons.”
