The Gialloblu are on 38 points, just three above the drop zone, and are winless in their last nine league games, while their opponents are on a run of 14 matches without a victory.

A success for either side would ensure their mathematical safety, as Genoa have just one fixture left and are currently on 37 points.

“The team has been working hard this week to try and turn this game into a final,” said D’Aversa in his Press conference.

“This is a vitally important game for us, and we hope to have the entire city behind us. We will need the encouragement of our fans, that gives us that sense of belonging and can push our players over this final hurdle.

“We won’t think about what Empoli are doing, we will only be focused on our own game. Our aim is to continue the era that was started years ago when we began our journey to Serie A. We need to be united. We won’t waste energy on what other teams do.

“Fiorentina are a good side, Luis Muriel and Federico Chiesa can cause you problems if you allow them to have space and time on the ball. They haven’t won in a while, but they are still dangerous. We will, however, try and take advantage of the fact that they are in a difficult period.”

If anyone knows about fighting against the odds, it’s Parma, as they became the first club in Italy to secure three back-to-back promotions from Serie C to the top flight after bankruptcy.

“Last year when we went to Spezia, no-one thought that we would win the Serie B championship on the final day, we went into that game determined and we must do the same thing today, every player must give 100%.

“We have an important opportunity to achieve safety in front of our fans, the people of this city will be fully behind us, they want to see us continue the good work we have done over the past few years.”
