The 36-year-old is set to run out as this season’s top goalscorer, having netted 26 times – four more than nearest competitors Duvan Zapata and Krzysztof Piatek.

The Italy international was born in Naples and played for his hometown club during the 2009-10 campaign, scoring 11 goals in 37 appearances.

However, it later emerged that he abruptly cut his spell at the San Paolo short because of a stalker.

Quagliarella is the second player over 30 to be linked with a summer switch to the Partenopei this week after Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic.
