Max Allegri feels Juventus have an ’80 percent’ chance of retaining the Scudetto without him and Fabio Quagliarella ‘deserved’ to be Capocannoniere.

Juve lost 2-0 to Sampdoria on Sunday evening, in what was Allegri’s final game in charge of the Old Lady, and he is confident they will remain the team to beat in Italy.

“I leave behind a winning team, who next season have an 80 percent chance of winning the Scudetto and will do well in the Champions League,” he said after the game.

“This winning cycle is certainly not over yet; Juventus will be ready to win again next season. I don’t have any regrets about leaving as I came to this decision together with the club.

“I would like to thank everyone at the club, from the kit-men to the physios, the doctors, my staff and all the fans who have been close to us and gave us such passionate support.

“I want to thank the club, especially as they allowed me to work with great players and gave me a strong squad to coach.

“I leave behind a winning team, who are stronger than then other teams and will again be the team to beat. Maybe with a little bit more luck, they can win the Champions League.

“I was lucky that we came to the decision to part ways when we did because, if we chose to wait until after the last home game of the season against Atalanta, we wouldn’t have been able to say our goodbyes.

“For that, I thank President Andrea Agnelli who gave me the chance to say farewell to the fans.”

The champions’ defeat was their third at Marassi in three years, while Quagliarella beat Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A’s top goalscorer award.

“In life, things happen that are already written. I may have not Coached here, but I’m reminded that we won our first Scudetto together here and now I’m saying goodbye at the same stadium after winning our fifth.

“We played well tonight and I’m sorry we couldn’t get the win, but for a team who are supposedly already on holiday, we end the season with a decent performance.

“I’d just like to add that Fabio Quagliarella deserves the title of Capocannoniere [top goalscorer] as he is a great professional and had an excellent season.”
