Giuseppe Pillon has stepped down as Pescara Coach after they bowed out of the Serie B playoffs.

The Delfini lost the second leg of their semi-final 1-0 to Verona on Sunday night after the first game ended goalless.

“I thank my players who gave everything, I thank the club who brought me here, especially director Giorgio Repetto,” Pillon said after the match.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t reach the playoff Final and, in particular, I’m sorry for the fans, whom I’ve always felt close to.

“This is my farewell Press conference because I believe the club should start next season with a new Coach.

“I’m very sorry that I couldn’t deliver the dream of promotion.”

Pillon joined Pescara in April 2018 and initally guided them to safety, before overseeing a promotion push.

The Biancazzurri will likely promote their youth-team boss Luciano Zauri, who recently led their Under-19 side to the Primavera 2B title.
