Atalanta defender Berat Djimsiti played through pain for weeks to help his team qualify for the Champions League, postponing a hernia operation.

The Albania international finally had surgery yesterday, under 48 hours after the end of the Serie A season.

“OP done, time for recovery now,” wrote Djimsiti on Instagram along with a photograph of himself in the clinic bed.

Atalanta were short-staffed in defence during the closing months of the season, as Rafael Toloi was injured.
