The 25-year-old right-sided wing-back can also play in a more advanced role and this season provided nine assists in 33 Serie A games.

He has also been linked with Napoli, but they signed Giovanni Di Lorenzo from Empoli for €8m plus bonuses on Friday.

Along with Lazzari, there could also be an approach for centre-forward Petagna, in what would be a return to Atalanta after one year.

The striker turns 24 later this month and made the move for €15m, having the most successful campaign of his career with 16 Serie A goals in 36 appearances.

If he were to come back, he’d reunite with very good friend Papu Gomez and be given the chance to play regularly in Serie A and the Coppa Italia while Duvan Zapata focused on the Champions League and the high-profile fixtures.
