Lecce boss Fabio Liverani has conceded that the club need ‘at least 8-10 new players’ for next season’s Serie A campaign.

The Giallorossi have returned to the top flight, seven years since they last played there, after clinching a runners-up finish in Serie B.

However, Liverani made it clear there would be no place for sentiment, even if he backed some of his squad to emerge as ‘surprise packages’.

“We won’t be able to make 16 signings, but we’d like to bring in at least 8-10 new players,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“The squad has many players who could potentially be surprise packages next season, but we’ll see on the pitch whether they are up for the challenge, myself included.”

Could one of those additions be Napoli defender Sebastiano Luperto?

“He’s a player who fits into our parameters, but there’s no use saying he’ll come now.

“I tell the sporting director which positions need reinforcing, then it’s he who identifies the names.”

The former Lazio midfielder was then asked whether he was more intrigued by Antonio Conte’s appointment at Inter or Maurizio Sarri’s probable move to Juventus.

“I’d say Antonio Conte to Inter,” he concluded.
