Sampdoria Vice-President Antonio Romei has confirmed that Stefano Pioli could replace Marco Giampaolo as the club’s Coach.

Giampaolo is the runaway favourite to take over at Milan, with Paolo Maldini reported to have made the 51-year-old his first choice to replace Gennaro Gattuso.

“President Massimo Ferrero and Giampaolo met, and they’ve taken some time to reflect before making a decision,” Romei told Sky Sport Italia.

“For now they’re just rumours about him leaving, but we’re used to considering them as such.

“Giampaolo is a great Coach being linked to great clubs, but Samp are one themselves.”

Reports suggest Pioli will be Blucerchiati-bound this summer, so what does the lawyer make of the former Fiorentina boss?

“There are so many candidates, among them Pioli.”

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri will offer Giampaolo a two-year contract with the option of a third if he leaves Samp.
