It had become clear that the situation between Prandelli and President Enrico Preziosi was tense in his extremely brief stay on the Grifone bench.

He took over as their third boss of the campaign in early December, but scraped just four wins, 11 draws and nine defeats to barely escape relegation.

Genoa eventually only survived thanks to a superior head-to-head record with Andreazzoli’s Empoli, who by all accounts played far better football, particularly in the closing months of the season.

This is partly what enticed Preziosi to approach Andreazzoli, as Sky Sport Italia, La Gazzetta dello Sport and more all report the Coach accepted an offer to take over at Marassi on a two-year contract worth €700,000 per season.

He must first terminate his contract by mutual consent with Empoli, but then could bring creative midfielder Rade Krunic with him to Genoa.
