Andrea Pinamonti is undergoing tests on a knee injury that could well rule him out of the European Under-21 Championship.
The results of the tests will determine if he has to pull out and whether Coach Gigi Di Biagio needs to draft in a replacement.
Italy’s tournament kicks off on Sunday evening against Spain and Pinamonti is one of a few players doing overtime, as he also took part in the Under-20 World Cup.
The Inter-owned striker, who spent this season on loan at Frosinone, was one of the starts of that competition in Poland, which saw Italy lose the semi-final to Ukraine.
He’ll certainly miss the third-fourth place clash, but scored four goals in the competition, including a quarter-final brace against Mali.
